Write a blog post! But really, it can be frustrating as recruiter to dedicate time to working inside your ATS to source for candidate or manage requisitions and then the tool or software you need at that moment is not performing. If you work with any type of technology, it's probably happened to you. Recruiters - what can you when the tool you need is down? LinkedIn is offline, your email server crashed, or Taleo is just spinning and spinning. Or maybe you just have some "downtime" (yea, right)!
Never stop sourcing and building talent. We are salespeople and we have to continue to go toward that close no matter what. React and adapt. The reaction might be what we have the problem with. And it's hard to move forward feeling like you don't have the equipment/materials you need. This gives us concern that many people just want to relate to others about. I think positive reactions gives us a similar reaction.
To simply state some ideas or things I do when my ATS is down:
Try LinkedIn, indeed.com, ebay/kijiji, craigslist, or any niche job board that aligns with the current industry I'm working on
Prepare candidate resumes or notes for upcoming interviews I have scheduled
Review job descriptions and postings to build search strings or updates
Review internal training documents for strategy ideas
Research information about the company, job, or general recruiting tips and tools that might help
Update my reports and records
Reprioritize my time management schedule
Get coffee
And sometimes it's a sign from the universe that you need a little break, am I right?
