Electronics Manufacturing Engineer - Kohler Power

Seeking manufacturing professional with ABET accredited degree and 3 or more years of experience supporting circuit board/controller manufacturing process. Prefer C+, CAD, Visual Basic, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, SPC, SMT (surface mount technology), wave solder, conformal coating experience.
 
Under the direction of the Supervisor-Electronics, the Electronics Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for learning the production processes in assigned areas, and the completion of productivity, continuous improvement, and cost reduction projects in their assigned areas. Responsibilities will also include implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles, introduction of New Product, and execution of Capital Projects in their assigned areas. This position is responsible for process engineering of circuit board and controller manufacturing and will spend approximately 75% of their time on the manufacturing floor.


HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
  • Manufacturing floor support for circuit board and controller manufacturing processes. Process responsibility for SMT lines, Insertion equipment, Wave Solder, and Conformal Coating. Also process responsibility for HLA (higher level assembly) of Controllers.
  • Champion continuous improvement (KOS events/workshops) and Cost Reductions efforts in the area of responsibility to constantly improve the process and lower the cost.
  • Implement Capital projects throughout departments. Work closely with shop personnel, Marketing, and Design Engineering to determine the manufacturing needs for equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate introductions of new products to production. Work closely with Design Engineering, Marketing, and the production floor to effectively implement new products into production. Establish shop routings for all new products and engineering specials. Evaluate capacity requirements to ensure production capability of manufacturing new products.
  • Analyze operations and sequence of operations to assure full utilization and maximum quality from present equipment. Answer and respond to inquiries related to the assembly processes.
  • Maintain routings for operations required and set incentive standards for areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor production builds. This involves working closely with Production Foreman, Supervisors, and Design Engineers to ensure productions problems are resolved.
  • Provide technical support and monitor critical processes in the department.
  • Provide required support for ISO 9001. Work closely with ISO coordinating team and production employees to ensure compliance to ISO 9001 standards. Follow procedures established for Manufacturing Engineering to execute design changes, implementation of procedures and reference documents, and all documented responsibilities of Process Engineering.
  • Monitor new technical developments for possible applications in the department.











RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
  • Reports to the Supvr-Electronics.

Organizational Relationships:
  • Frequent contact with Design Engineering personnel to coordinate project direction and timing.
  • Frequent contact with Production Scheduling, Supervisors, and Engineering Technicians to troubleshoot and address production issues.
  • Frequent contact with Production Supervisors and employees to formulate area layouts, process changes, and new equipment requirements.
  • Frequent contact with Marketing/Sales departments to coordinate projects on the production floor.
  • Frequent contact with Maintenance department to maintain and improve existing machinery and equipment used in production processes.
  • Frequent contact with Quality Engineering to maintain and improve quality procedures and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Occasional communication with Purchasing for equipment quotations and to issue binding purchasing contracts.







External Business Relationships:
  • Frequent contact with mechanical, electrical, and HVAC vendors for quotations and project installations.
  • Frequent contact with tooling and equipment suppliers for recommendations, quotations, and installations.

 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required. 3 plus year’s experience in circuit board manufacturing desired.
  • Experience with SMT equipment, wave solder, and conformal coating desired.
  • Computer skills: Comfortable with hardware installation and software configuration.
  • C+, CAD, Labview, Visual Basic experience is a plus.
  • Training in Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, Lean manufacturing, and SPC are desired.
  • Strong communication skills, sense of urgency, and initiative are required.
